Chromosomal Instability (CIN) refers to frequent errors during mitotic cell division, leading to the frequent loss, gain, or rearrangement of chromosomes within cells (numerical and structural CIN). It is a key feature of many cancers, driving tumour evolution and therapy resistance. Cancers with high levels of CIN tend to be more aggressive and are often linked to poor patient outcomes.
Understanding CIN is essential for developing targeted therapies and improving cancer treatment.
Many precision medicine approaches focus on detecting small single-gene mutations to guide treatment. However, these methods often fall short in cancers with CIN. At Tailor Bio, we use CIN signature biomarkers to guide target selection and patient stratification.
These biomarkers are patterns of chromosomal copy number changes, which are linked to fundamental biological processes. These processes are often consistent across different cancers, allowing our targeted therapies to be applied to a wide range of tumour types.
